Nebraska State FFA Nursery & Landscape Management
Contest Overview:
The Nursery and Landscape CDE contest tests students’ skills in plant and pest identification, nursery and landscape management practices, and problem solving.
Contest Schedule:
Date: Wednesday, March 28, 2012
Report Time: 5:40 p.m. or 7:10 p.m. (see explanation below)
Report Location: 2nd Floor, Keim Hall
The contest will be divided into two sections:
--Section I: Districts 1-6 will complete the contest from 6-7:30 p.m. (report 20 minutes early)
--Section II: Districts 7-12 will complete the contest from 7:30-9 p.m. (report 20 minutes early)
--Check-in begins 20 minutes prior to your start time. Please do not arrive any earlier than 20 minutes before your contest begins.

Eligibility:
Students in any grade level may compete in this contest if they qualified from the district level. Twenty-five percent of the total number of schools in a district can qualify. However, if the student has won the contest the year before, he or she will not be allowed to compete.
Required Supplies for Students:
• Pencil
• Clipboard
• Engineer’s scale
• Calculator

• General knowledge test added.
State Rules and Format:
All activities are individual.
Plant and Pest Identification - 50 points
• Students will be required to identify plant materials and pests. Plant and Pest List 2012
• 25 samples
General Knowledge Test - 50 points
• Students will be required to answer general knowledge questions about plant growth and development.
• 20-25 multiple choice questions
Landscape Problem Solving – 50 total points
• Students will be required to read a landscape plan and answer questions pertaining to it. They will also need to answer questions about products sold or used to manage the landscape. Calculations will be involved.
• 20-25 questions
