Clarification on the Team Product Development

Students will be given a particular product they will develop. They will develop a brand that is consistent with the target market. Teams will draw a Principal Display Panel (PDP) for their product, and then will draw what their creation looks like. Students will then answer questions at the end of the contest. It is strongly recommended that teams bring colored pencils for this portion of the contest.

Overview

Once the teams are determined for state, the teams will be divided into rotations. Half of the teams will compete in product development while a fourth of the participants will be assigned to sensory, a fourth assigned to food safety and a fourth assigned to the exam. At twenty minutes the sensory and exam group will swap, and then at one hour and 10 minutes the entire group will change. The contest length will be approximately two and half hours.

  1. Product Development Team Activity (using the Package Design portion of the national Product Development scorecard)
    1. Time:  1 hour
    2. Points: 400
  2. Food Safety Individual Activity
    1. Time:  20 min.
    2. Points:  50
  3. Multiple Choice Individual Exam (Paper Exam for 2012)
    1. Time:  30 min.

  4. Sensory Evaluation Individual Activity (Aroma Evaluation using the national list and a Triangle Test)
    1. Time:  20 min.

Individual scores are a total of the Food Safety, Exam and Sensory Evaluation sections.  Team scores are a total of all team members' individual scores plus the Product Development team activity.
